Crown Castle sought re-approval of a 120-foot stealth cell tower at 10581 SW Pratt-Whitney Road. Neighbors in Highpointe objected, and the item was withdrawn at the applicant's request before the 2026-09-29 County Commission vote.

Where it stands

Withdrawn at the applicant's request at the Board of County Commissioners on 2026-09-29, with no vote. The applicant had earlier asked to postpone the hearing to 2026-10-13, but the item isn't on the 10/13 or 10/27 agendas. Whether it comes back is unknown.

The Local Planning Agency heard it on 2026-09-17. Its recommendation isn't public, because those minutes haven't been posted.

What was proposed

An unmanned 120-foot stealth wireless tower for up to three carriers, on a 5,975-square-foot leased corner of a 4.3-acre property at SW Pratt-Whitney Road and SW Bulldog Way. The application describes it as a "monopine" (a tower disguised as a pine tree). The same tower was approved in 2015, but that approval expired in 2017.

Why it matters to neighbors

  • Highpointe homeowners objected in writing, citing the look of a 120-foot tower in a low-density residential area, setbacks, and property values.
  • Stealth towers skip some rules. County code doesn't apply the usual tower separation, setback and fall-zone rules to stealth towers.
  • Other details: a $22,500 payment instead of building a sidewalk, and 2.19 acres of wetlands on the property under a management plan.

What county staff said

Approve. Staff's draft conditions would have barred any extension above 120 feet except lightning rods.
